The Equipment Inspector is responsible for understanding DOT and Company compliance standards as well as being able to create work orders. They will also be responsible for doing on the spot repairs in conjunction with the inspections to limit the amount of time spent in the bay. The Equipment Inspector will consistently communicate with the Truck Shop and Trailer Shop on incoming repairs, and work with The Spot Team on loaded trailer arrivals and equipment status updates.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesMakes inspections of units entering and exiting the yard to ensure the mechanical compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) requirementsInspect all incoming loaded and empty trailers prior to being movedInspects tires, lights and other exterior components for safe operating conditionsEnsures the timely and authorized entrance to and departure of equipmentReport all information through Yard Management System and handle all Bills of Lading properlyEnsure all information concerning incoming trailers is entered into the computerCommunicate with all truck drivers on where to stage certain trailersMakes decisions on the cleanliness of the trailers, both inside and outsideDoing lite line repairs, lights, mud flaps, tire replacements, etcUsing computers to create work orders and update yard system
RequirementsBeing able to stand for long periods of time, frequent walking, stooping and squattingAbility to lift and carry up to 105 lbs
